Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry was officially named the NBA's Most Valuable Player on Monday, confirming earlier reports that the sharp-shooting sixth-year pro would win the league's top honor.
Curry received 100 of a possible 130 first-place votes from a panel of media members to edge Rockets guard James Harden for the award. LeBron James finished third, followed by Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis.
The point guard averaged 23.8 points, 7.7 assists and 2.04 steals per game for the Warriors, who dominated in the regular season and currently are holding a 1-0 lead in their Western Conference semifinal series against the Memphis Grizzlies. He will be presented with his award before Game 2 on Tuesday.
Curry also was lights-out from 3-point range, shooting 44.3 percent from beyond the arc, while also leading the league in free-throw percentage at 91.4. Curry is the first Warrior in the team's 53-year California history to win MVP.
