Kentucky center Karl-Anthony Towns is very likely to be a high draft pick in June. It is also very likely that the New York Knicks could get one of the top picks in the NBA draft. With the Knicks reportedly highly interested in Towns, the two could be a perfect match.
The Knicks need a center and as Towns told the Marc Berman of the New York Post, he would love to play for the team he grew up watching.
"If I have the opportunity to ever play for the Knicks, that's what I would love to do.''
Towns still has his Knicks ballcap in his bedroom in Jersey.
“Yeah, in this area growing up, you don't have the money to have the NBA League Pass, so you got the local teams,'' Towns said. “I always got a chance to watch the MSG channel and watch the Knicks play. I grew up to have a lot of respect for the Knicks.''
While Towns could be the perfect addition for the Knicks, there have been many reports about what they will actually do with their pick. If it is outside of the top two, they may look to trade it. Phil Jackson has even openly stated that the Knicks will "consider everything" with their pick, which leaves a lot up in the air.
With a 19.9% chance of winning the number one pick, New York's murky draft situation should become much clearer after the lottery happens on May 19. If they actually end up keeping their pick and draft Towns, it will not only be a sensible option but would allow the New Jersey native to play for the team he rooted for as a kid.
