Back at MSG, Isiah explains past

Isiah Thomas was hired as the new president of the New York Liberty by his long-time friend, James Dolan, owner of the Knicks and Liberty.

This has caused a fair amount of outrage, since, outside of the massive failures that befell the Knicks when Thomas was president of the Knicks, a 2007 lawsuit resulted in a jury's verdict that Thomas sexually harassed a Knicks executive. You can find more on that story here.

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com commented Wednesday on the hire.

Isiah Thomas is nestled once again in the warm, welcoming nest of James Dolan's Madison Square Garden, this time as president of the WNBA's New York Liberty. Hiring Thomas -- found by a federal court in 2007 to have intentionally discriminated against former MSG executive Anucha Browne Sanders because she was female -- to run a women's professional basketball team owned by the same company (or any company) is the height of tone-deaf hypocrisy. Thomas made the media rounds Wednesday, spreading the false gospel that he wasn't found responsible in the infamous sexual harassment case against MSG (he was) and that he didn't trade draft picks that turned into, among others, LaMarcus Aldridge, Joakim Noah and Gordon Hayward for Eddy Curry (he did exactly that). Meanwhile, Phil Jackson is laughing all the way to the bank with his $60 million guaranteed contract, which is the kind of money that Thomas used to throw at guys who couldn't play as well as Jackson could now at age 69. Fun times, as usual, at MSG.

Thomas appeared on the Boomer and Carton show as well as the Doug Gottlieb Show on CBS Sports Network and CBS Sports Radio Wednesday. The interview with Gottlieb got more than a little contentious as Thomas kept insisting that he denied the charges and that the court finding found MSG, not Thomas himself, liable .

I would say I can't believe that Thomas is really trying to say that he can deny the charges after the jury found MSG liable, but then, I also can't believe Dolan would hire this guy after everything, let alone for a position with his women's basketball team. Keep Knicksing, Knicks. New York finished 17-65 this season with an $80 million salary.
