Wolves' Wiggins to reportedly be named ROY

Timberwolves forward Andrew Wiggins will be named Rookie of the Year Thursday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The Timberwolves announced that they and the NBA would hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to make "a major announcement."

Coach and president of basketball operations Flip Saunders said during his season-ending media that Wiggins is the cornerstone for where he hopes the franchise is heading.

"If you look at the teams that are successful right now…they all have a player who can create, who can create plays out of nothing," Saunders said. "They get to the free-throw line. For the first time, pretty much in this organization, we have a player who can do that."

Wiggins led all rookies with 16.9 points and 36.2 minutes per game while seeing action in all 82 games. He shot 43.7 percent from the field while racking up 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and one steal per game.

"Offensively, defensively, just being the person that I am off the court, I learned a lot," Wiggins said before his team's final game of the season. "I've grown a lot since [training camp]."
