Report: NYPD provoked Atlanta's Sefolosha

A conflicting story has emerged about the incident involving Hawks forward Thabo Sefolosh's arrest last week.

While the original police account stated that Sefolosha and teammate Pero Antic were arrested after an officer "observed the defendant Thabo Sefolosha run in an aggressive manner towards the direction" of another officer, a source close to Sefolosha told SI.com a conflicting story.

The source said the police officer was the aggressor and not Sefolosha. According to the source, Sefolosha and Antic were attempting to disperse from the area when the police officer followed Sefolosha and Antic.

Instead of running toward the officer as the initial account reported, the source said Sefolosha turned around to ask the officer what his problem was with him. The two began to argue, which led to Sefolosha's arrest for obstruction of a governmental function, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Sefolosha issued a statement Tuesday saying the fractured leg he sustained during the incident was from the NYPD.
