Longtime Utah Jazz announcer and former NBA All-Star Hod Rod Hundley died Friday. He was 80.
He had been battling Alzheimer's.
The popular Hundley was the voice of the Jazz from the club's inception in New Orleans in 1974 until he retired in 2009. Hundley has lived in Arizona since retiring after the 2008-09 season. He started as the TV and radio voice of the expansion New Orleans Jazz in 1974 after working for the Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and CBS.
Hundley was a star at West Virginia, averaging 24.6 points and 10.6 rebounds over his three-year career, and was the No. 1 overall pick in the 1957 NBA Draft.
In the NBA, he averaged 8.4 points over six seasons with the Lakers in Minneapolis and Los Angeles and was named to two All-Star teams.
