Bulls' Rose has meniscectomy; back 4-6 weeks?

Bulls guard Derrick Rose underwent a meniscectomy in his right knee, the team announced on Friday. general manager Gar Forman called teh procedure minor and said Rose was able to walk out of the hospital. Forman said that depending on the rehab, he could return to action in four-to-six weeks, per the Chicago Tribune.

This was the second meniscus surgery Rose has undergone in as many years. Last year, Rose had his meniscus repaired or reattached, which kept him sidelined the remainder of the 2013-14 season. This time around, he will have a surgical removal of all or a part of his torn meniscus, which will give him as shorter rehabilitation timetable, but may cause long-term issues like arthritis or cysts down the road.

Rose averaged 18.4 points and 5.0 assists in 46 games this season before going down with the injury. Executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson remained upbeat about Rose's chances of playing again this season.

"Nothing is an easy procedure, but our anticipation is that there's an area that's going to get taken care of and the hope is that he will (play this season)," Paxson said before the procedure, per the Tribune.
