Smith calls Knicks' woeful season a 'nightmare'

New York Knicks shooting guard J.R. Smith has missed the last seven games because of a heel injury, but while sidelined he accurately described what the team's 5-25 season has been like. From The Knicks Blog's Adam Zagoria:

“I mean, it's a nightmare, we just gotta wake up from it,” Smith said 48 hours before the Knicks face John Wall and the Washington Wizards on national TV on Christmas. “Hopefully try to figure it out, turn it around, whatever it takes. We're losing by such a small margin we gotta figure out how to win those games.”

“I mean to be 5-25, we had a lot of expectations coming in here so to be in the situation we're in , it's a nightmare for me anyway,” Smith reiterated.

Asked what he thought the key problem was, Smith said: “I think that's the million dollar question. It looks like it's so many things but at the same time it's gotta be something real small to change because we're still in most games. It's hard to tell right now. If we knew our record would definitely show it.”

The Knicks' last win came Dec. 12 in Boston. Before that, it was Nov. 22 against Philadelphia. New York and the Sixers are both 17.5 games behind the first-place Toronto Raptors in the Atlantic Division, but at least Philly has a bright future. The Knicks have little other than the vague hope that president Phil Jackson will fix things eventually. Patience will be necessary. In the short term, things won't likely get much less ugly.

For the second straight year in New York, essentially nothing has gone right. I'm actually surprised Smith is the first person to refer to this as a nightmare.
